A Policy That Has Developed Through Trial and Error......
There was once a time that I had an extremely "decent" paying job in corporate America and I used to do all my dollie work as a hobby. I was able to pay for dolls and supplies, etc. up front without batting an eye (even for the custom Cher dolls). People would request dolls or costumes for dolls, etc. and could take as long as they needed to pay because I didn't need to use it as a source of income. Over the past couple of years, this situation has changed. As much as I'd love to still do this as a hobby, I can't. As much as I'd love to let people take several months to to pay, I can't. So now I have adjusted my policy to be more in line with the rest of the doll artist community.
If you would like a custom creation or refurbishing work done on a doll, I will need a 50% deposit prior to starting the work. The balance will be due within a reasonable amount of time... like 30 days. Your item will be shipped after all fees and shipping charges have been paid.
For more elaborate creations (which often tend to be the more expensive creations), payment of the balance can be extended to 60 days and split into 2 payments... but this must be prearranged in advance. Some of these creations take a full 3 weeks of work to complete anyway and there are generally project in progress all the time. Deposits cannot be refunded. The deposit money will be spent on supplies for the creation. For example - most custom Cher dolls (11.5") will cost in the range of $150-$200 just for the supplies (supplies in this case does include Mattel Mackie Cher doll). If you can't pay the balance, the deposit will be forfeited and the doll will most likely end up on eBay. Payments can be made by money order, cashier's check, Western Union BidPay or PayPal. Sorry... but I don't accept personal checks.
Thanks for understanding and I will make sure to send you the finger pricking kit with your contract so you can sign in blood...... just kidding!!!
