Who Is My Size Barbie?
The first My Size Barbie was made by Mattel in 1992.  She is often referred to as the 3 foot Barbie, but actually measures closer to 38".  The idea was to give little girls a playmate that was close to their size.  She came with clothes that were adjustable or stretchy enough to be worn by a little girl between the ages of 3 to 9.  After 1992, several more were made and each had their own unique theme, e.g., Princess, Ballerina, Bride, Dancing (came with a stand that rolls), Rapunzel, Angel, Butterfly and Sugarplum Princess, 2002 Rapunzel, 2003 Swan Lake and the 2004 Princess & the Pauper (which includes an additional dress and a brunette wig).  The Angel doll came with an additional outfit, similar to Barbie's, for a little girl to wear instead of the adjustable sharable clothing.  Each unique model was manufactured in both Caucasian (White) and African American (Black) with the exception of the Bride which had 2 additional models - a redhead and a brunette.

Mattel does not make any additional clothing for these dolls.  There are many instances where a child will become bored with the big beautiful doll who owns 1 dress.  You can dress them in toddler clothing, but My Size Barbie is not a toddler and does not have the figure of one.  Her measurements are  18-12-18.... which on a real woman's scale would be 36-24-26.  In my opinion, she looks silly in toddler clothes... although my 5 year old daughter sometimes dresses hers this way and pretends to be the Mommy.

It seems that a large population of My Size Barbies are owned by adult collectors.  Yes, I'm one of them.  Often they are acquired by us after they've been cast aside by children.  A lot of the times, they don't have any clothing (or at least not their original clothing).  Many times they've been abused - bad haircuts, facial repaints by crayons, markers and nail polish or even worse.  I've acquired a few when they were headed for the dumpster and was able to restore them to new beauty.  Below are a few examples of their original look.
